Essentials of Filmmaking: Production

Making a film requires more than inspiration. It requires collaboration, planning, and the ability to execute a creative vision on set.

Our Essentials of Filmmaking: Production workshop focuses on the critical production phase of filmmaking, introducing participants to the roles, workflows, and practices that keep a set running smoothly. Building upon foundational filmmaking concepts, this course provides an inside look at what happens when a project moves from planning into action.

Participants will gain practical knowledge about crew responsibilities, on-set etiquette, directing talent, managing schedules, and working effectively as part of a production team. Through demonstrations and collaborative exercises, attendees will experience the realities of production and learn skills that translate directly to independent films, documentaries, short-form content, and community storytelling projects.

Topics include:

  • Production workflows and crew roles

  • Set safety and professional practices

  • Directing and collaboration

  • Production planning and logistics

  • Problem-solving and adaptability on set

Whether your goal is to direct, produce, shoot, or simply gain a better understanding of how productions come together, this workshop offers a valuable foundation for emerging filmmakers.

“This is where we can really start to build a creative community!”
