Today, we’re thrilled to announce a new partnership between Cascadia Media Lab and the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF).  This collaboration brings together two vibrant filmmaking communities connected by geography, creativity, and a shared belief in the power of storytelling.

This weekend, Cascadia Media Lab officially opened its doors — and more than 25 filmmakers, artists, neighbors, and supporters showed up to help us celebrate the beginning of something big.

From the moment people started arriving, the space filled with the kind of energy you can’t manufacture: curiosity, excitement, and a genuine hunger for creative community in the Pacific Northwest. Folks wandered through our production areas, chatted with instructors and volunteers, asked smart questions about our 2027 programs, and shared their own hopes for what a regional media arts hub could become.

Cascadia Media Lab is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Washington Athletic Club (WAC) to bring hands‑on, community‑centered filmmaking education to youth in downtown Seattle. Beginning this fall, we’ll be hosting two 8‑week filmmaking programs at the WAC’s flagship downtown location — each designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and introduce young storytellers to the magic of visual storytelling.

After nine weeks of learning, experimenting, collaborating, and stretching creatively, our Essentials of Filmmaking workshop series came to a truly inspiring close this weekend. What began as a room full of emerging storytellers has grown into a confident, connected cohort — one that showed up with curiosity, pushed through challenges, and embraced the full filmmaking process with heart.

At Cascadia Media Lab, we believe that filmmaking is a craft built on clarity, intention, and the courage to imagine boldly. This fall, we’re thrilled to offer a rare opportunity for emerging filmmakers, visual storytellers, and seasoned creatives alike: a masterclass with world‑renowned storyboard artist David Russell.

We’re three weeks into the Essentials of Filmmaking workshop series, and something special is happening here at Cascadia Media Lab. Each session has been building not just skills, but a genuine creative community — one that’s curious, supportive, and already pushing each other to make better work.

Cascadia Media Lab exists to expand access to film education, mentorship, and creative workforce development in the Pacific Northwest. Our mission is to build a space where emerging filmmakers — especially those historically excluded from the industry — can learn, collaborate, and launch meaningful careers.

This four‑year strategic plan outlines how we will grow from a small, focused pilot operation into a fully realized creative hub offering year‑round programming, paid apprenticeships, youth education, and community membership. Each year builds intentionally on the last, creating a sustainable foundation for long‑term impact.
