Direct Before You Shoot – The Art of Storyboarding

September 5th and 6th

9:00AM to 3:00PM PST

Northwest Film Forum (1515 12th Ave, Seattle, 98122)

Storyboarding is a critical phase of a film’s pre-production.  The director and storyboard artist collaborate to produce a series of almost comic book-like panels, which serve to visualize for the director how his or her film will be shot.  Storyboarding is equally valuable to large, moderate, and low-budget productions.  It aids the director during the entire film-making process, from pre-production to editing, to communicate efficiently with the cast and crew, ensuring that everyone in the production understands exactly what he or she is trying to achieve.

In this informative and practical class presents an expert analysis of the visual planning process.  It provides an insider look at how a script can be enhanced through creative storyboarding, and how this critical tool is used by prominent directors to realize exactly the film they envision.  We will analyze sequences which David has boarded for prominent films and show how they were eventually shot and edited.  He will also discuss visual planning methods of cinematic masters.

The Master Class is designed to provide immediately applicable tools, and extensive technical information on creating effective storyboards.
